Abstract
A case of adenoacanthoma of the gallbladder in a 54-years-old Korean male was experienced in the Dept. of Surgery, St. Paul¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical College.
Clinically no subjective symptoms were noticed up to the date of this onset. Three days before the admission, the patient complained of colicky pain in the right upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting. Acute cholecystopathy were suspected.
Exploratory laparatomy showed firm indurated mass in the gallbladder with infiltrative growth to the serosal surface. No stone was indentified.
Histologically the tumor tissue was composed of adenoacanthoma with pronounced epidermization. Also anaplastic areas were intiermingled. Chronic inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrosis were observed.
Review of literature disclosed very few number of gallbladder malignancy, and most cases showed adenocarcinoma.
About 5% of gallbladder carcinoma was composed of squamous cell carcinoma, which was most probably due to metaplasia with chronic irritation. No metastatic lesion was noted in the liver and neighboring tissue of the gallbladder.
Necessity of careful examination for the detection of malignancy was postulated in the case of cholecystopathy.
